Q&A: Supplements and the Triple Whammy

Health Tips / Q&A: Supplements and the Triple Whammy

Q:        I unfortunately have all the symptoms of the Triple Whammy.  What supplements do I need to take to get on the right track?

A: Taking supplements to boost your feel-good serotonin is just one part of the Triple Whammy three-week cure, but it’s an essential component. To increase the amount of serotonin in your body and protect you from stress, you’ll need at minimum the B complex and fish oil (we stock both in our online apothecary).

Many of my patients also require St. John’s wort and 5-HTP to get their serotonin levels high enough to start helping Triple Whammy disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, and fibromyalgia. Taking all four supplements gives you the best serotonin support you can get without taking an antidepressant.

(On that subject, please don’t take St. John’s wort or 5-HTP if you’re taking an antidepressant. You might end up feeling “wired” due to too much serotonin. The B complex and fish oil can be taken safely with an antidepressant.)

The Triple Whammy Cure is packed with other easy, non-pill ways to increase serotonin, including being outside without sunglasses, exercising, timing your intake of carbs, and giving of yourself to others.

Reducing stress and balancing your hormones are important too, so check out the book at your local library or buy it here.
