Kids are headed back to school in the next few weeks, and for many kids that means one thing: The first sick day won’t be far behind.
If you have kids, you know that children are much more likely to get sick than adults. In fact, a 2015 study from the University of Utah School of Medicine found that families without kids were sick about 7 percent of the year, while families with just one child were sick about 35 percent of the year. And the more children in the household, the more often everyone was sick.
Why? Because children haven’t built up the necessary immunities to various viruses, and, to make matters worse, they are hanging out with other children who also don’t have strong immunities.
Unfortunately, the more often a child is sick, the more often doctors will prescribe them antibiotics or other medications, which can increase the risk of them becoming immune to those medications over time. That’s why many parents turn to homeopathy as a way to treat their children safely without having to rely on medications.
Homeopathy is an energy-based form of medicine that uses remedies made from plants, minerals or animal tissue diluted into very low doses so that patients get the energy of the original substance without any of the molecules of the original substance. By using the right remedies, homeopathic doctors are able to balance a person’s energy to restore them to health.
Homeopathy can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions in children including everything from constipation and gastrointestinal issues to ear infections, eczema, allergies, asthma, ADD, sensory issues, emotional problems and more.
Sujatha Mannal, a homeopathic practitioner at the Center for Holistic Medicine, says using homeopathic treatments is especially good for children. Here are a few of the biggest benefits:
- There Are No Side Effects
Mannal says homeopathic remedies are completely safe, and unlike other medications, they have no side effects whatsoever. “For example, if someone brought in their child who was having anxiety about going back to school, it would mean using a homeopathic remedy that is safe and not putting them on anti-anxiety medications,” Mannal says. - It Works Fast
“Children respond very well to [homeopathic] remedies, and their conditions often clear up rapidly when the right remedy is found,” Dr. Jerry Gore, MD, head of the Center for Holistic Medicine, writes in his book, “Holistic Medicine.”Mannal says this is because children do not have the same doubts and skepticism about homeopathy that some adults do, making their bodies more accepting of the new energy. - It’s Gets to the Root Cause
Unlike traditional medicine, homeopathy is not about just treating someone’s symptoms. Instead, the goal is to look at the entire person – from a physical, emotional and psychological standpoint – to treat the underlying cause of someone’s illness. For example, if a child came in who had reoccurring strep throat, Mannal says she would look at the child’s entire history – what the mother’s pregnancy was like, what the child’s milestones had been like, what kind of diet he or she has, what supplements he or she takes, etc. – to find an individualized treatment plan for that specific child that would get to the root cause of the problem. - It Can Improve Their Immune System for Life
Children get sick again and again because they have lower resistance to illnesses than adults. But by using homeopathy to bring a child’s immune system into balance, their immune system will be stronger and they will be better able to resist other illnesses in the future.
