Vitamin D – More of Less?

Articles by Dr. Jerry Gore / Vitamin D – More of Less?

There has been a lot of discussion lately about how much Vitamin D we should be taking. I’ve read opinions about how we should have anywhere from 30mg/ml to 90mg/ml. Initially it was “the more the better” but on the westinprice.org website, they make a pretty good case for more is not always better. I recently read about a study where the authors found a “plateau” effect around 30mg/ml where Vitamin D at this level had a protective effect against upper respiratory infections and where there was “minimal additional protective effect” above this level. My opinion is to not overdo Vitamin D. I use sunlight from May to September and fermented cod liver oil for my sources of Vitamin D. This translates to 1200-1500mg of Vitamin D per teaspoon of oil.

Best of health,
